This year my sister received a breast cancer diagnosis and I have accompanied her to several appointments to help her manage her care. While navigating both the physical and emotional aspects of this diagnosis, I have also watched her become the primary coordinator of her care. She is responsible for ensuring all of her many healthcare providers have all the information they need in order to ensure she is getting the care that she needs. This is not good enough. It is not good enough for patients, and it is not good enough for physicians providing care. She should not have to be worried that her surgeon is being sent her ultrasound results while undergoing chemotherapy and being a mother to two young children. My sister, and all patients in BC, deserve better than this.
