I have a problem with my heart. I have a 2 to 1 block in my left ventricle. I have been cardioverted 38 times in the last 2 years as I am waiting to have the next procedure done which I am told would rectify this. When I go to Mission emergency I am moved promptly into the trauma room, I am put under and my heart is restored to its normal heart rate. This is done as I have to wait for the procedure. There is a huge amount of notes in my file directing the attending physician to go straight to the procedure. The reason for this is that the symptoms hide and are hard for them to see, making an understanding of what is going on is difficult for them to see. This summer I decided to travel a bit and enjoy some of my life as the end may happen sooner than I would like. I traveled to Victoria and it happened again. So I went to the hospital in Victoria. I went to emergency and told them what was going on and to read the notes in my file which direct them to cardiovert and why. The file was not consulted. I was treated very poorly. I was told my health care representative could not go with me. This is my wife who is very educated with the procedure and been present during all of the previous procedures and had to respond to numerous questions from the attending Dr. when I was under and not able to respond. I was moved into a hallway and left there. I was summoned by a clerk and I told her to read my file, it has direction from my doctor, my cardiologist and other emergency rom doctors advising about how my problem hides and to Cardovert right away. She dismissed my claims and told me she could not open my file. I was moved back to the hallway and left there. I finally got up, found my wife wife and we went straight home to Mission where I went to Mission hospital emergency and was cardioverted putting my heart back into normal rhythm. Upon review I was able to talk to the person uncharge of IT at Victoria hospital who confirmed to following. The clerk did not know what she was talking about. She did not know her job and did knot know how to access my file. The process is extremely disappointing because each health care board in BC has been given huge amounts of cash to buy and set up computers and programming to organize the files they work with. Each one thinks theirs is the best. They do not share files because each one is different. I don’t think you need to do a study here. You need to address the systemic attitude at the hospital and get one system for the entire province which works with the rest of Canada. tnes
