On June 1, 2026, I had an ultrasound done on my thyroid, which showed “multiple colloid cysts and spongiform nodules”, but also stated “no previous studies for comparison”. A letter from Dr. G.E. Wilkins on March 14, 2006 talks about the November 8, 2005 CT scan showing small cysts or lesions in the thyroid. On Feb 7, 2006 I had a thyroid sonogram showing small cystic thyroid nodules. On November 8, 2005 I had a CT scan, again showing cysts or adenomas in the thyroid. Without me securing copies of all my test results (which I get push-back for from the medical profession), I would have no access to this information. Multiple scans in 2005 and 2006 showed thyroid lesions, yet the June 1, 2026 ultrasound stated flatly “no previous studies for comparison”. Therefore, there has been no follow-up.
I had a mammography on May 28, 2026. I called my doctor to request a copy of my results (which were normal), but was told I had to make an appointment to see the doctor to discuss my “normal” results – they would not mail or email them to me. (I ended up calling BC Cancer directly, and they mailed me my results, without question. I did not want to waste the doctor’s time, by making an appointment just to get my normal results. But it seems that was okay for the doctor’s office.)
June 6, 2022 I had an unrequested ultrasound for a cyst on my knee, which I had for over a year, but did not have a family doctor. Having previously had a cyst, I knew what it was, but I was constantly told by the medical profession that it wasn’t a cyst, and more tests would be needed. They told me I was in pain, when I clearly told them I was not in pain. After the ultrasound, the technicians could not conclude anything. Suggested I wait another 6 months to have another ultrasound, or get an MRI on August 13, 2022. I finally was referred to a plastic surgeon, and paid $1,000.00 to have the cyst removed on December 16, 2022. In 1991, I had a similar cyst on the side of my knee, quickly diagnosed by my doctor in his office. In one week, I returned to my doctor’s office, where he removed it for $150.00.
I am a senior who has been in the medical system for a long time. In the past 10 to 15 years, I have seen a huge decline in care. Doctors seem more absorbed in inputting information in a computer than looking at their patients. With low blood pressure, my age, and arrythmia, I would expect my doctor to take my blood pressure and pulse at the very least, instead of just ordering blood tests. In the past, I would go to my doctor every few years, with a few concerns that were dealt with in a short visit. Now, patients are told only one issue can be dealt with, despite the fact the body is all connected. I have lost faith, and given the choice between visiting the doctor, or just trying not to worry about things, I choose the latter.
